WaterFilters.NET, the leading online water filter superstore, has teamed up with Kids in Community Kare and Service (KICKS) of Greenwood Elementary School, Plymouth, MN, to build clean water wells in India. Together, KICKS and WaterFilters.NET raised $1523.00 for the student-led charity Drinking Water for India-enough money to build one-and-a-half wells in a region plagued by drought and contamination.

According to Waterfilters.NET, “This is the second year of a program called KICKS, Kids in Community Kare and Service. Fifth grade students apply to the program, and then throughout the school year, the students use their ‘Friday Flex Time’ to plan and execute a service learning project. This year, the students have organized a drive for Candy for Troops, collected over 3,000 pounds of food for IOCP and raised over $5,000 for Pennies for Patients. In addition, the kids organized a sale of ‘Team Anika’ bracelets to support a Greenwood kindergartner who is battling leukemia; they raised nearly $2,000. The KICKS kids will have a Celebration in Service the Middle of May. After some pizza and ice cream together, they’ll be using the money raised for Team Anika to do some online shopping for the Children’s Hospital Wish List. What a great way to wrap up a wonderful year working together!”

Drinking Water for India has two goals: to build tube-wells in remote Indian villages and to inspire and motivate fellow students across the U.S. to recognize the many hardships communities face in developing countries. Drinking Water for India’s website says, “[In India], villagers have to walk, sometimes for miles, to reach their nearest water source. Frequently the water is muddy and not even clean. Drinking Water for India strives to change this by building tube-wells in such villages. Each tube well costs $1,000 and helps an average of 1,800 villagers over a period of at least ten years (that’s $.55 per villager!).”

WaterFilters.NET wishes to thank all KICKS team members, employees, Drinking Water for India, and fans of clean drinking water everywhere who made this possible.
