Many regions of central Somalia have experienced an acute water shortage after almost a full year without rainfall. More than hundreds of rural residents have traveled to nearby towns in search of water for themselves and their animals. Most of the wells and waterholes that they depended upon had dried up, only worsened by the scorched-earth tactics of al-Shabaab militants.
