An international research has shed light on how rapidly proliferating blue-green algae could end up poisoning drinking water sources and put millions of people at risk of liver diseases and serious mental conditions. According to a research carried out by an international team of researchers led by scientists at McGill University and published in journal Ecology Letters, Cyanobacteria blooms pose a serious threat to drinking-water sources, because certain species contain toxins harmful to the liver or nervous system.
