THANE: The Thane civic body has slapped a notice on a popular mall in Thane after a potability test revealed contamination and high alkaline levels in one of the drinking water outlets.

After receiving the report from its lab, the TMC, on Monday has directed the management to immediately get the water tanks cleaned. The quantum of contamination is yet to be revealed.

The samples were collected on Saturday following few visitors complaining of stomach-related problems after having drinking water at some restaurants at the mall.

“One of the four water samples showed contamination following which a notice was slapped on to the mall. We have identified contamination in one of the water samples and have asked the management to ensure the tanks in the malls were cleaned properly,” said Sandip Malvi, deputy commissioner of TMC late on Monday.

The TMC has however absolved itself of any wrongdoings and claimed the mall sources majority of its water from private tanker operators.

Representatives of the mall management, speaking to TOI, refused to acknowledge any complaint of contamination but said the drinking water outlets were shut for routine maintenance.
