Pollution in Water, Mud Near Sparrows Point Needs Attention, Study Finds

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation hired teams from a private firm and the University of Maryland to review water and sediment samples in creeks near a former steel mill site. While not harmful to humans, the offshore contamination hurts worms and other organisms that are at the bottom of the foodweb. The steel company, Bethlehem Steel, entered a consent decree with federal regulators in 1997. The company gave $3 million toward the offshore contamination. But the Chesapeake Bay Foundation believes that it is not enough for Sparrows Point. Read more here: http://bsun.md/2xtBG29
