Senate and House to Protect Waterways from 8 Trillion Microbeads Every Day

The United States Senate and House of Representatives have passed a bill that would ban a threat to oceans and other waterways: microbeads. Microbeads are used in face washes, body washes, and makeup. They are small enough to evade regular wastewater treatment processes. Their small size results in about 8 trillion microbeads globally making their way into aquatic habitats each day. In the US alone, wastewater treatment plants have the capacity to treat more than 160 trillion liters of water every day. That could mean that they dump an estimated 8 trillion microbeads into US waterways per day. Read more here:
