From Kewaunee County, An Environmentalist Does Not Believe In State’s Plan For Solving Water Pollution

A clean water activist Lynn Utesch from Kewaunee County supports a legal challenge against the Wisconsin for records. The records relate to large farms, also referred to as concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs). Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker promised to solve the state’s groundwater and surface water contamination problems based on sound science. Utesch doesn’t believe him. There is already a lot of science showing that many wells are very polluted. The farmers would have to return to older conservation practices. So the Kewaunee County activist supports a legal complaint filed by the Midwest Environmental Advocates. The Midwest Environmental Advocates complain that the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has been too slow in complying with “three sets of open record requests.” Utesch of Kewaunee County believes that the state could do more.
