New York Governor Andrew Cuomo directed state agencies to use Superfund money to manage industrial chemicals in Hoosick Falls’ water supplies. Saint-Gobain Performance Plastic has been designated a Superfund site. This designation makes it liable for the cost and clean up of perfluorooctanoic acid, also known as PFOA. Although studies have linked PFOA and cancer, the United States Environmental Protection Agency has stated that there is insufficient evidence to label PFOA a carcinogen. The people of Hoosick Falls, NY were instructed in December of 2015 to stop drinking water.
