In California, Caltrans launched a three-year campaign, “Protect Every Drop.” The campaign aims to reduce the amount of pollution from people’s cars into streams, rivers, lakes, and oceans. Caltrans operates 15,000 miles of storm drain systems along California’s highways. People can take several actions to reduce pollution like keeping their cars clean, cleaning their cars at car washes that collect water, making sure fluids do not leak, putting tarps and ropes over objects in flatbeds, and cleaning dust off wheels.
