March 22 has been designated World Water Day. The theme for 2016 is “Water and Jobs.” This focus is more critical now. Contaminated and polluted water costs dollars in tourism and commerce. Milwaukee has direct access to 20 percent of the world’s surface freshwater in the Great Lakes. Milwaukee is specially positioned. Yet there are still problems and challenges, one of which is investing in infrastructure. Replacing 5 miles of pipe could cost Milwaukee and 70,000 property owners $511 million or more.
