Wells in Amherst have been found to be contaminated by a toxic chemical known as PFOA. Residents who rely on these wells have been offered bottled water for the time being. Officials are suspicious of a former Textiles Coated International (TCI) plant in the area. The plant had been using PFOAs until 2013 and may have been the cause of some of the contamination. Authorities are testing other wells in the area in order to detect any additional contamination. Read more about the Amherst well contamination here.
