Hundreds of students in an east Chinese school had suffered from serious medical issues recently. It was found that the prime suspect was three former chemical plants that have been releasing heavy metals and other contaminants into the groundwater and soil. The levels of certain carcinogens in the groundwater were hundred thousand times the normal safety level. As such, the school was immediately relocated. So far medical issues include bronchitis, blood and thyroid abnormalities, and in some cases lymphoma and leukaemia. Read more about the crisis here.
