In order to maintain new water pipe system, drinking water supply for residents of Flint, Michigan was switched from Lake Hurren to Flint River which is highly toxic. Usage of contaminated water for more than a year led to negative health effects. Even low levels of lead can cause serious damage to the peripheral nervous system and many other sections of the body.
