Over seventeen thousand households were subjected to a contaminated water supply in early December. United Utilities, who are responsible for the supply, say they are working to fix the problem which has been caused by a technical fault at a treatment works at Buckton Castle, near Mossley. Residents are asked to boil their water before drinking it, especially if the water is discolored. This way any germs that may exist in the water will be ridden of.
