FloNoxTM: A Water Treatment System for Natural Disasters

By April Day, Publishing Director for Save The Water™ | October 1, 2020

The year 2020 has brought a lot of challenges: COVID-19 pandemic, California wildfires, Atlantic hurricane season, flooding in Sudan, earthquakes, tornadoes. Natural disasters undeniably cause devastation around the planet. Not only do they level cities, towns, and villages, they also wreck local water supplies. Save The WaterTM has a solution for the water pollution part of natural disasters: the water treatment system FloNoxTM.

What is FloNoxTM?

FloNoxTM is a short name for a water treatment system. The name combines two other proprietary system names: eFlocTM and eNoxTM. eFlocTM uses electroflocculation to treat water. In short, it uses electric waves to separate pollutants from water. In brief, eFlocTM removes inorganic pollutants. You can read a better explanation of how it works here.

Next, eNoxTM is a photolytic oxidation technology. In short, it uses chemicals and ultraviolet (UV) light to get pollutants out of the water. Which is to say, eNoxTM combines hydrogen, ozone, and/or a catalyst with an ultraviolet (UV) light source that can be applied to wastewater streams. eNoxTM removes organic pollutants. You can read more about how eNoxTM works here.

Together, these two proprietary systems, eFlocTM and eNoxTM, become FloNoxTM. FloNoxTM is self-contained. That is to say, it fits into a 40-foot intermodal shipping container.

The FloNoxTM system stabilizes the solids generated during treatment into material that can be disposed of in sanitary landfill.

How Can You Use the Water Treatment System FloNoxTM?

You can use FloNoxTM in situations where heavily polluted water is the only water available for drinking or where that water is the only water available for manufacturing, labs, or hospitals. These situations can be in remote locations or where natural disasters hit. In general, floodwater can be dangerous because it contains all kinds of chemicals, bacteria, viruses, etc. In other words, FloNoxTM can turn flood water into drinking water. That can save lives!

In addition, it removes United States Environmental Protection Agency priority heavy metals. It can also remove a wide range of contaminants. Also, it greatly reduces oil, grease, and suspended solids. After treatment, the treated water can be recycled.

In addition to being used to treat heavily contaminated water, FloNoxTM can also be used as a pretreatment for reverse osmosis membranes and ion exchange resin beds. For more information about reverse osmosis membranes, you can go here.

Lastly, its comprehensive remote digital management makes it easy to manage. It can be managed from a central lab.

What Else is there to Know about FloNoxTM?

Bench-scale testing indicates that FloNoxTM, with minor modifications, can remove a widely-present per and polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) known as PFOS from waters contaminated with Aqueous Fire Fighting Foam (AFFF). PFOS, like other PFASs, are everywhere.

Much like a virus can hit anywhere, so can natural disasters. And water pollution moves all over the world. Learn even more about how FloNoxTM can be one water treatment solution here.
