People should be able to know what they drink.

Our Vision: Clean, healthy water for all.

The Everglades serves as a drinking water source for over 8 million people. No one knows for sure all the toxic chemicals in the Everglades. We want to change that.

Our current hypothesis is that contaminants dangerous to humans have entered the Everglades and are either untested or under-reported.

To test this hypothesis we propose to launch a laboratory with the latest water analytical chemistry developments to check water samples collected:

  • Hundred testing sites (over 70 more sites than the South Florida water management district)
  • Two samples per site six times per year
  • 1200 water samples per year

Save the Water™ proposes to check for more than 2,700 chemicals, including toxic chemicals such as the following:

  • Carcinogens
  • Pesticides
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Industrial Chemicals
  • Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals

Endocrine disrupting chemicals and chemicals that change the healthy working systems of the human body. As a result endocrine descriptive chemicals have been linked to several diseases:

  • Infertility
  • Obesity
  • Prostate and Breast cancer
  • Diabetes

We need accurate information about toxic chemicals in the Everglades to protect people today and tomorrow.

And we want to make that information public.

This is our timeline:

The project needs a total of $ 10,538,337 for the first three years.

Save the Water™ is the only organization trying to establish baseline water quality in the Everglades. We are over 80 volunteers, including several with expertise in the following fields:

  • Analytical chemistry
  • Analytical laboratory management
  • Chemical engineering
  • Chemistry
  • Industrial water treatment
  • Drinking water treatment
  • Project management

Save the Water™ is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to conduct research to identify and remove harmful contaminants in water and to raise public awareness about water contamination and its health impacts.
